Overview

A Tesla–SpaceX combination moved from forecast to formal evaluation in October 2026, though no deal has been agreed.

In the Moonshots Live panel published 29 September 2026, Cathie Wood said ARK believes a merger will happen. She tied it to Musk's Mars goal, the connectivity business, xAI's neocloud pivot and orbital data centers. Peter Diamandis agreed that a deal could be announced that year. His question about dilution went unanswered.

In the episode published 21 October, Peter said Musk had announced that day that Tesla and SpaceX had formed special committees to discuss a merger. Alexander Wissner-Gross argued that Tesla's hopping-Roadster demonstration was 90% about helping to secure the merger, which is his own interpretation. SpaceX's 10-Q, filed 22 October, confirms that both companies formed special committees after an announcement on the 20 October earnings call. It says SpaceX's committee had reached no determination and could decline to recommend a deal. Any combination would need approval from that committee, the board and the controlling shareholder. Terms, valuation and timing remain open.
