Privacy at Heard in AI
You can read the magazine without accepting optional analytics or signing up for email.
Page counts
When page counting is on, we count public page loads by day and page. This count works even if you reject analytics or your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. It uses no analytics cookie or visitor ID. The count stores no IP address, browser details, referring site, query string or campaign tag. It cannot tell us how many different people visited. We keep daily counts for up to 180 days.
Optional reader analytics
If you accept analytics, we use a random browser ID to count visits, returning browsers and article reading on our own server. An engaged read is an estimate based on time and how far down an article you scroll. We do not send this analytics data to an advertising or external analytics service.
These detailed records include pages visited, visit times, article engagement and the referring website’s domain. If a link has campaign tags, we may also keep its source, medium and campaign as short labels for that visit. We do not keep search terms, full referring links, email addresses or free-form campaign links in analytics. Detailed records contain no name, IP address or browser fingerprint. The browser ID is pseudonymous; it can link visits from the same browser. Records and cookie choices expire after 180 days.
Change your cookie settings to accept or withdraw permission for detailed analytics. Your choice does not affect access to articles or newsletter signup. Rejecting stops detailed collection and removes its browser ID; it does not stop basic page counting when that is on.
The daily email
Story updates by email and web push are separate, optional choices. My subscriptions lets you manage them. Push uses a browser subscription and a private cookie; it does not require an email address or analytics consent.
We store your email address and subscription status to send the newsletter you requested. Email consent is separate from analytics consent. Our subscription database counts confirmed subscriptions even when analytics is off.
If you allow detailed analytics when signing up from an article, we can record which article led to your signup. This link remains after you confirm by email, even from another browser. Withdrawing analytics permission from the original browser removes the link.
Read the email privacy details, including Mailgun delivery and unsubscribe records.
Site operation and your rights
The hosting server may keep request logs to operate and secure the site. These are separate from analytics and may include your IP address and requested URL.
You can ask the publisher about your data, request access or deletion, or withdraw permission. Contact [email protected].
